Button-by-button calculators lose the plot on anything with nesting. Typing (2+3)*4^2 keeps the whole
expression visible, so you can see the mistake before you see the answer. Standard operator precedence applies:
brackets, then powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.

Degrees or radians
Trigonometric functions default to degrees, which is what most people want for geometry homework and practical angles. Switch to radians for calculus, physics and anything involving pi — sin(pi/2) is 1 in radians and roughly 0.0274 in degrees, and mixing them up is the single most common source of wrong trig answers.
Reading very large and very small results
Results beyond a trillion or below a ten-millionth are shown in scientific notation, so 6.02e+23 means 6.02 × 1023. The breakdown under the answer always repeats the result rounded to two and six decimal places for when you need a tidier figure.
